The Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Bedford, Bedfordshire, has become the first Gurdwara in the country to become a Covid-19 vaccination centre.

Barfi Culture has learnt that other Sikh Gurdwaras have also offered their spaces as vaccination centres and are soon likely to follow.

So far the Gurdwara is the second such site in the city and will be used to vaccinate residents over the age of 80.

Gurpreet Singh Anand, Secretary General of Sikh Council UK told Barfi Culture: "It is heart warming to see Gurdwaras coming forward to offer their facilities as Covid-19 vaccination centres. Since the start of the pandemic Gurdwaras have stepped up to support the local communities around them."

There have been growing calls for places of worship such as Gurdwaras, Mandirs and Mosques to be used as vaccination centres, to improve access for ethnic minority communities.
