Trump's new nominee for a senior judge is a desi... and already in the 'desi hall of shame'

On Monday, President Trump announced his nominee for the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and a whole group of desis groaned with annoyance and embarrassment.

He had nominated Neomi Jehangir Rao, an Indian American attorney and government official, for a senior judicial position.

Why the groans?

Because Rao is well known for her highly controversial and offensive views, that include: "that climate change wasn’t real and... sexual and racial oppression were 'myths'," according to Mother Jones magazine.

She has also attacked multiculturalism (i.e. people of different cultures living side by side) as a divisive force and railed against feminism, affirmative action, political correctness, LGBT rights, and environmentalism.

Ms Rao was born to Zerin Rao and Jehangir Narioshang Rao, both Parsi physicians from India, and raised in Michigan. She had been serving as the administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.

The reaction to her appointment wasn't pretty, especially from desis.

So who else is in that desi hall of shame?

There's actually a whole website dedicated to them.

It includes:

Welcome to the club, Ms Rao!
