British scientists are about to launch a number of research studies to look at why people from an ethnic minority background are at greater risk from Covid-19.

The research will look at everything from genetic factors to social circumstances (from racism to deprivation) and day-to-day activities are having an impact.

One study will follow 30,000 health and social-care staff for a year.

Prof Kamlesh Khunti, director of the Centre for BME Health at the University of Leicester, is involved in three of the studies.

He told BBC News he expected results to be translated into guidance to help save lives.

Barfi Culture will provide comprehensive coverage of these studies once they are out.
