The BBC's most popular soap Eastenders will have one of its Muslim characters come out as lesbian this month, TV insiders say.
It will be the first time for a Muslim lesbian character on the BBC.
But its not the first time for soap opera land. ITV's Coronation street recently featured the much-loved Muslim nurse Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia), who came out as lesbian, but then abruptly died on her wedding day.
Eastenders character Iqra Ahmed (Priya Davdra, pictured above on the right) will come out as gay after it emerges she had been sending flirtatious messages to girls, according to The Sun newspaper.
"Iqra has been fighting to keep her sexuality quiet, but eventually the truth will emerge," a source told the newspaper.
Eastenders earlier featured a gay Muslim character, but Iqra will be the show's first lesbian Muslim to come out.
