Detectives from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit today said they had charged two individuals for fraud and money laundering offences.

Kaldip Singh Lehal, aged 38, is best known as Deepa Singh and founded the controversial group Sikh Youth UK. He was arrested along with his sister, Rajbinder Kaur, aged 50.

Kaur has been charged with money laundering, six counts of theft amounting to £50,000 and one count under Section 60 of the Charities Act 2011 - knowingly or recklessly provide false or misleading information to the commission.

Kaldip Lehal has been charged with one count under Section 60 of the Charities Act 2011 - knowingly or recklessly provide false or misleading information to the commission.

Both were arrested on 3 July 2019 in connection with alleged fraud offences of donated charitable funds.

In a video posted after he was released in July, Singh said he had always been "expecting a knock on the door" and had been "harasssed by the police" for a year since the raids in September 2018.

He said he would continue to "take a stand" against the police and claimed they had been colluding with the Indian police to target Sikh activists. "The protests ain't going to stop, and the online campaigns against you, being banned, ain't going to stop."

The two have been bailed to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on 31 October.

This story will be updated with more developments.
