WATCH: Instead of a typical acceptance speech, Aziz Ansari hilariously ripped the BAFTAs last night

It's a routine we have seen over and over. A celebrity gets an award and makes a boring acceptance speech thanking their mum and the production team.
But last night Aziz Ansari threw the typical script out of the window when accepting the Charlie Chaplin Award for Excellence in Comedy at the Britannia Awards, held by the BAFTAS in Los Angeles.
Hhe launched into an expletive-laden speech in which he cursed the BAFTAs for forcing him to fly around the world for it. It had the audience in tears.
"I met this lovely woman, "he said, "...we were having a great time in London drinking flat whites and eating shepherd's pie, riding the tube. And then who comes in and ruins my amazing British experience? The f***ing BAFTAs!"
He railed against the silliness of awards shows for a bit longer before laying into the "awful food" and the "awkward" tribute reel. Others in the industry loved it.
But he tempered his criticism a bit at the end. "All that stuff is just jokes," he said. "This is really a very nice... thing."
Love it.
