Gautam Malkani's Londonstani is being turned into a movie and they're looking for Asian male actors
Writer and journalist Gautam Malkani's debut book Londonstani is being turned into a film by the director Nirpal Bhogal, and they are looking for young Asian male actors.
Londonstani is the story of a group of Asian men growing up in Hounslow, West London, who make their money stealing phones.
The main character, Jas, joins a group of wannabe gangsters who end up annoying the wrong people. More trouble comes when Jas becomes romantically involved with a Muslim girl.
The book was published in 2006 and was the subject of a fierce bidding war even before it came out. Gautam Malkani went back to working for the Financial Times afterit came out and is finishing his second book, The Story Distorted.
Director Nirpal Bhogal, who made the gritty drama Sket in 2011, is adapting Londonstani for the big screen.
He told the Ilford Recorder: "I picked this book up in Waterstones in Ilford when I was 15 or 16 years old and I loved it. I was mad at myself when I read the book, as I felt like I should have been less lazy and written it myself.â€
“It’s crazy to think that I’ve now finshed the film script and will be directing the film."
The production team is now holding an audition for "confident" British-Asian male actors aged between 15 and 18 years.
The team plan to first shoot a ten-minute short and later the full film.
Open audition
Monday, January 15th / 3:30pm to 7:30pm / The Jack Carter Centre, The Drive, Barkingside, London
If you can’t make the audition email them a clear photograph, some details and your DOB: enquiries@michellesmithcasting.co.uk
